The central area will be densified especially around the railway station with the significance of railroad traffic will increasing in the future. The planned area is bounded between the railway and Tampereentie.

Objective
The objective of the design is to outline a framework for the surroundings of the old railway station to serve as a basis for the future masterplan of the area. Good accessibility and an urban centre structure are key factors for the development of the area.

Design
The existing buildings and their expected lifespan have been taken into consideration in the planning of the area, with the existing office buildings and the library being relocated into the new “Lempäälä house” on the opposite side of the railway. Uniting the east and west sides of the track into a coherent entity is important for the accessibility of the central area. The flexibility of the plan, phasing of the construction, and understanding of the economical frame are necessary for the design. The dense and diverse city structure creates a vivid and spatially rich centre for the area.
